St Mary's Church, Aylesbury

Choir

St Mary's Church Choir sings at the 10.00 am Eucharist each Sunday morning through the year, and choral evensong at 6.00 pm on the first Sunday of each month. It also sings at major events in the church calendar (Holy Week, Christmas, etc.) and at other occasions such as Civic services and weddings. The choir is led by the Music Director (currently vacant).

At our weekly evening rehearsals we aim to attain a high standard of singing while enjoying the time we spend together. Regular and punctual attendance is requested from all choir members.

The choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music. This has many advantages in that it keeps us up to date with new methods of teaching, new music available, and organises courses throughout the year which choristers are encouraged to attend.

St Mary's Choir

The choir sings a wide range of styles of music, from Gregorian Chant, through Renaissance polyphony, and the Anglican choral repertoire, to modern worship styles including Taizé and Iona. We also aim for an eclectic range of old and new hymnody in our services.

We welcome new singers of all ages from eight upwards. A probationary period of not less than a month enables newcomers to experience what it is like to be a member of the choir before deciding to join.

The choir usually takes the Sundays after Christmas and Easter, as well as the whole of August, as holiday.
