Music

"He who sings prays twice."

(St Augustine)

"After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music."

(Aldous Huxley)

Music plays a major role in church and community life at St Mary's, within the context both of formal worship and other activities that take place in the building. We embrace the power that music has to uplift us, inspire us, bring us together, and 'tune' us into the beauty of the God-given cosmos.

A recent legacy from a former long-serving choir member is enabling music provision and education at St Mary's to be substantially resourced and animated. We welcome all who wish to share in the musical life of the church and community.

St Mary's Church - Eucharist

St Mary's is the venue for regular concerts of chamber music by outstanding young performers, as well as small and large-scale community music-making activities and concerts. A music group for parents and preschool children takes place weekly.

The church choir sings each Sunday at morning service, and once a month at choral evensong, as well as at major events in the church calendar and Civic and other occasions throughout the year; there are also opportunities for instrumentalists to participate in these services.
